About Us
The UTM Rocketry Team is a student-led group from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) that focuses on designing, building, and launching high-powered rockets for the International Rocket Engineering Competition.
Comprising students from various engineering backgrounds, the team applies theoretical knowledge to practical aerospace projects involving propulsion, aerodynamics, structural design, and electronics.
Through participation in IREC 2025, the team showcases UTM's innovation and technical excellence while promoting interest in STEM and space technology across Malaysia.
Key Achievements
International Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC)
A proud moment as twelve exceptional students from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) represent the nation at the International Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) 2025 in Texas, USA. As the only team from Malaysia among 176 elite teams worldwide, they perfectly embody the country's engineering talent, innovation, and determination on a truly global stage.
This success makes UTM the first team from Malaysia to qualify for the final stage of the prestigious competition organized by the Tripoli Rocketry Association which is often referred to as the "World Cup of rocketry" in 2025. It has marked the country's strides across the world in the field of rocket engineering, making new nation history by using ammonium perchlorate as the main propulsion system to reach the target altitude of 3,000 metres in Texas airspace.
