Twelve trailblazing students from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) have made history as Malaysia's sole representative at the International Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) 2025 in Midland, Texas, USA held from 10 to 15 June 2025.
Our creation, Rimau 1, a high-powered student-engineered rocket developed over nine intense months by a 40-strong engineering team, has successfully soared to an altitude of 3,000 meters, marking a proud moment for Malaysia on the global aerospace map.
Competing among 176 elite teams from across the world, UTM was the only Malaysian institution selected for this prestigious event organised by the Tripoli Rocketry Association.
The UTM Rocketry Team is led by T.K. Arykummara, a final-year student from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, alongside core team members Brenden Huang Hong Quan, K. Rashull, Izzat Idlan Amir Roslan, and M. Shivee Prakhaash. Their achievement was made possible under the guidance of Ts. Dr. Ahmad Humaizi Rosalni, whose dedication as the accompanying academic supervisor was instrumental.
This achievement embodies UTM's spirit of innovation, grit, and collaboration—carrying the Jalur Gemilang to new heights.
